HydraFacials Crowned the Most Popular Beauty Treatment of 2019

The biggest beauty treatment trends of 2019 have just been revealed and the most popular service might surprise you.
Forget your traditional mani-pedis, relaxing massages or innovative hair services, Yelp, the user-generated review forum, has found that a particular type of facial is the treatment of choice for beauty lovers this year.
And, that skin treatment is the HydraFacial.
What Is a HydraFacial?
For those unfamiliar, a HydraFacial is a noninvasive procedure that is essentially a peel, microdermabrasion, and hydrating mask in one. This all-in-one treatment cleanses, exfoliates and extracts to remove impurities and dead skin cells. At the same time, it replenishes vital nutrients, including antioxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, plumping and firming skin for long term results you can see and feel instantly. The HydraFacial can be performed on all skin types (the only exceptions to this are an active rash, sunburn, or rosacea flare-up) and also helps with pore size and hyperpigmentation. Since there is no downtime, you may immediately put on makeup and return to your normal activities. For those seeking the service for an actual event, the best time to receive the HydraFacial is a few days prior to event when “peak results” are optimal.
How Does It Work?
The HydraFacial is a medical-grade device with a handheld device that uses four different HydroPeel tips and various skin care solutions (chemical exfoliants, antioxidants, and hydrating serums like hyaluronic acid) to achieve its results. The spiral design of the tips used in conjunction with the HydraFacial vacuum technology creates a vortex effect to easily dislodge and remove impurities (pulls debris out of your pores), while simultaneously introducing solutions that exfoliate, hydrate and infuse your skin with antioxidants. At the end, you can actually see all the impurities that were removed.
Step 1: Active 4 serum removes dead skin cells and uncovers healthy skin.
Step 2: A mixture of 7.5-30% glycolic and 1.5-2% salicylic acid delivers the benefits of a peel without the post-peel scaling.
Step 3: Patented, painless vortex suction cleans out pores with the help of Beta-HD serum.
Step 4: Antiox serum nourishes and protects the skin with antioxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid.
Step 5: You maintain your results at home using the recommended skin care products that best fit your skin’s needs.
According to Yelp, HydraFacials are being mentioned on the platform four times more often in reviews than four years ago.
Last year, Allure also reported that, stateside, a HydraFacial was performed every 15 seconds, which accounts to more than the total number of Botox injections administered in the US at that time.
Yelp, which provides recommendations across health, food, lifestyle and beauty services, collated the data from the nearly 200 million reviews found on the site in celebration of its 15th anniversary.
The popularity of the hydrafacial is due in large part to the increasing trend towards natural, radiant, moist skin, and ‘no make-up’ make-up, as the Yelp report also revealed two other glow-boosting treatments – dermaplaning and microneedling – have risen in popularity.
Dermaplaning involves removing peach fuzz and dead skin from the face using a scalpel-like tool, thereby helping you get the best results possible from other skin treatments and products. By removing dead skin cells and the soft facial hair that traps dirt and oil, you are able to apply makeup more evenly and are left with smoother, softer skin.
Microneedling, on the other hand, uses tiny needles to cause microscopic pinpricks in the skin to generate rejuvenation and stimulate your body’s natural collagen production.
“At Yelp, we’re seeing that people are going for beauty treatments that are reflective of a more natural look—ditching the fake tans and permanent makeup.” said Tara Lewis, a Yelp trend expert to Elle US. Instead, they are “opting for treatments like dermaplaning and microneedling that improve the texture and appearance of skin, so they can let their glowy complexion steal the show.”
As for the beauty treatments that have lost their on-trend status, those include lash extensions (replaced by an increased interest in lash lifting treatments) and keratin hair services (as individuals embrace the natural hair movement and the existing texture of their tresses).
We are also glad to see a decrease in the popularity of sunbed use, which was a big trend in 2005, as the information about their link with skin cancer has emerged.
