Hydrodermabrasion :: The Skin Care Craze

With so many buzzwords in the beauty sphere, from microblading to LED Light Therapy, it’s tough to keep up with the newest trends and know what is actually effective at treating various skin issues. The newest one to pop up on our radar lately is Hydrodermabrasion.
Known as the “celebrity facial,” hydrodermabrasion is the latest and greatest way to exfoliate the skin to remove dead skin cells, improve skin texture, elasticity and firmness, treat fine lines and wrinkles, unclog pores, and even skin tone eliminating dark spots and hyperpigmentation. With less pain and irritation than traditional microdermabrasion, this new technology uses water and oxygen to effortlessly exfoliate the skin.
HydroFacial takes hydrodermabrasion a step further, removing dead skin cells while simultaneously bathing new skin with cleansing, hydrating and moisturizing solutions applied through a multiple micro-jet infusion system. By adding cleansing, extraction and infusion HydroFacial is essentially a facial, peel, microdermabrasion and hydrating mask in one and the ideal treatment to rejuvenate tired, dull skin – revealing and protecting healthy, radiant skin that glows. Its no wonder the treatment is reportedly a favorite of celebrity stunners like Beyonce Knowles, Kate Winslet, Paris Hilton, Charlize Theron, Gabrielle Union and Matthew Mcconaughey.
HydroFacial is one the most dynamic skin treatments currently on the market. It doesn’t pose the risk for irritation and it allows your dermatologist or esthetician to treat the skin when it is most receptive to product penetration. Your skin care professional can choose specific products tailored to your individual needs applying them during the treatment for maximum results. For example, a salicylic for someone suffering from acne prone skin or a vitamin C for general anti-aging concerns.
HydroFacial provides instant gratification with zero downtime, and its radiance-imparting properties really deliver that “extra glow”! This makes it the perfect treatment not only as a general monthly procedure to promote the health of your skin, but also the perfect skin care treatment before a big event, such as a wedding, special occasion or fun vacation.
How does a HydroFacial Work?
HydroFacial is powered by its pen-shaped handpiece is swept across your face with one of nine different hydro tips of various abrasive levels to buff away dead skin and improve skin texture, while a vacuum in the middle unclogs pores and removes those dead skin cells. Meanwhile, the pen deposits serum directly into your pores. It’s completely painless, you just feel a slight sucking sensation as the pen glides across your skin.
HydroFacial’s multi-step treatment utilizes: 1) Spiral vacuum cleansing and hydrodermabrasion Exfoliation to remove dead skin cells and sebum from the surface through the combination of water-based and physical exfoliation, 2) Pore Loosening and Chemical Peel, which involves infusing pores with a mild mix of salicylic and glycolic acids, 3) Pore Extraction, in which pore plugs and dirt are removed from the face through the cleaning and suctioning action of the HydroFacial applicator, and 4) Serum Fusion, in which the skin is infused with peptides, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid.
The steps together are meant to completely clear skin while also infusing it with powerful serums to promote long-lasting skin health as well as immediate rejuvenation. There are a number of other treatments that can be added-on to your HydroFacial treatment: GlySal- a peel without the post peel scaling and flaking; Britenol- addresses pigmentation; Dermabuilder- anti-aging, softens fine lines and wrinkles; Growth Factor- helps to speed up skin repair.

What is the Difference Between Microdermabrasion and Hydrodermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is performed on dry skin and uses a diamond pumice tip to provide maximum-strength physical exfoliation by buffing off the outermost skin layer. It’s best performed on heavy dead skin, rough thick skin, severely pitted skin or deeply pigmented skin. Dry microdermabrasion may irritate the epidermis causing temporary redness or an uncomfortable sunburn sensation (especially during the winter, and for sensitive skin that lacks moisture).
Hydrodermabrasion also utilizes a diamond tip but combines this with a saline water or other serum(s) as an exfoliating and cleansing medium. It is gentler than microdermabrasion and more suitable for those with sensitive skin conditions and darker skin tones. Throughout the process, each hydro-tip glides along the skin without friction and irritation as it exfoliates dead skin cells, painlessly extracts blackheads, and infuses skin with vital nutrition and moisture. Unlike a microdermabrasion, hydrodermabrasion does not produce heat or inflame the skin, allowing hydrodermabrasion to be used safely and painlessly to treat acne, exfoliate rosacea and correct other sensitive skin conditions.
How Long Does it Take to See Results?
HydraFacial offers a safe, effective long term skin building treatment that reduces the inflammatory signs of aging by building and maintaining skin in ways that enhance the value of other investments people have made in their skin health via therapies or products. Initial visible results are felt and noticed immediately and last about a month. A series of 6 treatments are needed for optimal effects on general skin health, wrinkle reduction, hyperpigmentation, and acne. After that a once a month maintenance program is essential to maintain the skin health effects. For these reasons we offer HydraFacial in packages of 3 and 6 sessions to insure the best results.
Am I Candidate for a HydroFacial?
A HydroFacial is suitable for all skin types, including thin or aging skin, ethnic skin, dry or oily skin. Even the most sensitive skin easily tolerates a HydroFacial. Other skin conditions such as Psoriasis, rosacea and eczema can benefit from this treatment as well. Your skin care professional will tailor the corrective serums to treat your unique skin condition.
How Long Does the Treatment Take?
A HydroFacial session takes approximately 45-60 minutes. Any add-on optional treatments will add to session time. A HydroPeel session takes approximately 60-75 minutes.
A HydroLED session takes about 75-90 minutes.
Is There any Downtime or Pain?
There is NO discomfort during the procedure. It is often described as feeling like a “cool paintbrush moving slowly over your face.” Skin may appear slightly pink after treatment, but will quickly subside. You may put on make-up and return to normal activities right after the treatment as there is no downtime. You should always wear sunscreen daily and avoid direct sun for the next several days.
What Results May be Expected?
A HydroFacial improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, congested and enlarged pores, dry flaky skin, oily or acne-prone skin, hyperpigmentation like blemishes and brown sun spots, improves elasticity and firmness, evens skin tone and vibrancy, refines pores and the appearance of mild scars.
